mixing – julian knowles

Right now, I’m currently in the middle of working on an upcoming track ‘On a Leash’ for Carly Dickenson down at Gasworks Studio A. I am producing/arranging and easing in some more live/played elements amongst the sequenced materials. Just did a great drum recording session with Chris O’Neill from Lucy Star Satellite and finished the main vocal and BV recording. I also threw down a pile of guitars to make things jangle and sparkle at the right points.

This is part of the Lady Electronica project which has been funded by the Australia Council for the Arts and Arts QLD. Other artists involved include Donna Hewitt, Heidi Millington, Kiley Gaffney and Michelle Xen.

In December last year, I had the pleasure of mixing a track for Desert Ghost at San Francisco’s historic Different Fur Studios. Located in the heart of the Mission District, lots of great albums were recorded here and its seen the likes of Brian Eno/David Byrne (some sessions for My Life in the Bush of Ghosts were done here), Blixa Bargeld, Bob Mould, Mr Bungle and more recently acts like Zola Jesus and Tegan and Sara. It houses a beautifully maintained Solid State Logic 4056E console in a room designed by the Walters Storyk Design Group. You can hear this track on the Twelve: The Best of 100 Songs 2011 compilation album along with a bunch of other tracks I recorded, mixed and produced.
